Ski season 2019/2020 – news from the slopes in the Low and High Tatras

True ski enthusiasts are long through with their first skiing this year. But for many of us, it is still only upcoming. After the end of the summer season and the traditional maintenance of the cable cars, several Slovak resorts prepared a lot of great news for skiers. These relate mainly to prices, services or fun attractions. Let’s have a look at which center you have something to look forward to.

End of fixed prices

First of all, skiers in the High Tatras will have to get used to the new price lists, which are not fixed anymore but are changing dynamically. So how much you are going to pay depends on several factors, such as a current capacity of the ski resort or the weather. Surprising news is that the resorts of Štrbské Pleso and Tatranská Lomnica have separate prices since this winter season. The different infrastructure of the resorts, the transport equipment and the number of ski trails are all behind this change.

The High Tatras are full of news and attractions this year. You definitely won´t be bored on or off the slope. If you want to experience the mountains from a different angle, try a ride on a snowcat or take part in the evening alpine hike in Tatranská Lomnica or Strbske Pleso.

Tip: During the visit to the High Tatras do not bypass Starý Smokovec. Take the funicular to Hrebienok, where you will be blown away by the beauty of the Tatra Dome. A UNESCO monument – Cathedral Notre-Dame became the main theme this year, which, unfortunately, was damaged by a large-scale fire in April 2019.

New services in Jasna on both sides of the hill

The popular hotel Srdiečko on the south side of Chopok underwent a change in the largest ski resort – Jasná, where the reconstruction of the rooms was successfully completed. At the Rotunda Restaurant on Chopok, you can enjoy specialties in a new à la carte style. During your visit, you will not only be attracted by the wide choice of dishes, but also by the magical atmosphere of the panoramic views and the selection of world rums. All romantic souls come into their own during a full moon dinner at the Habarka restaurant. The culinary experience and mysterious moments will also be underlined by the night skiing to the Lúčky valley station, where there will be only you and your partner and a silent witness of your adventure in the sky.

Tip: Fans of the “eco-friendly” lifestyle will be delighted at Jasná resort where they replace plastic dishes with more environmentally friendly options (paper, bamboo, china).

If you are a skier who, after a while on the slope, prefers relaxation and more privacy than the hotel rooms offer, you will appreciate the accommodation at Chalets Jasna Collection. Separate bedroom, living room, kitchen and wellness will enhance your feeling of undisturbed moments spent like in the comfort of your home.

Donovaly with a unique ski pass

Skiing in Donovaly is also in full swing. In addition to well-maintained ski slopes, Donovaly can boast about a Slovak first. Donovaly has become part of the courageous project – the biggest ski pass in Europe – Snowpass Card. Especially skiers, who ride on domestic and foreign slopes during the season, will love the advantages of this ski pass. With the ski pass, they will also enjoy the fun on the slope without restrictions in other European countries.

Tip: Several quality hotels in our ski resorts offer ski passes for this season with the price of accommodation. We aim attention especially to the adult-friendly hotel Tri Studničky in Jasná. For more information, we recommend that you check out the current benefits in the hotel’s Go pass system.
